Odd But Beautiful Things
Footed Bowl
I saw a photo of the footed bowl in a MET magazine. The bowl was used about 3,000 BCE in Egypt as a welcoming bowl. Food offerings were placed in the bowl which was slanted slightly toward the front because it was intended to symbolize gift, offering, welcome. I made my own copy; it is 5 1/2 inches in diameter as were the ones in the Metropolitan catalog.

Thespian in Thongs
A chalice is a footed cup. This footed cup is wearing thongs. It is a tribute to my daughter Kimme’s craft. It is hard to tell in the photos that this is a mug.

Exit Sign
Jerry and Kyle and I were driving down I-75 and stopped at a gas station. We went in to buy a few things, and we each took turns going to the restroom. No one said anything, but a few miles down the road one of us asked, “Did you see that sign above the door as you were leaving the restroom?” We had all seen it, but none of us knew what it meant! It was the birth of this carving. Five Eared Sam Sells Aluminum.
We Like Short Shorts
Levi’s! This carving resides at my son’s house in Texas.

Height Stick
I made this for my grandson, now six years old. Every year his height is marked and he can see how much he has grown. I also made measuring sticks for my other three grandchildren Finlay, Aidan, and Claire.

Celtic Cross
I carved this celtic cross on a short church pew that was rescued and refurbished in Texas.

Chess Set
I created this chess set out of 2x2’s on the lathe for our 4 inch square tile floor. This led to playing chess without boundaries, a whole different game. Lamar checkmated me by hiding his queen by the couch.

Las Tres Flores
On the flip side of Las Tres Flores, I carved a game board for Mancala.
